Kona, the Maremma, Wins Doggobrau Photo Competition

Bright Brewery is excited to announce Kona, a Maremma, as the winner of our Doggobrau photo competition.

Kona, adopted from Tiki Animal Rescue, will be featured on the can of Doggobrau Tropical XPA, set for release in November.

Kona’s heart-warming story stood out among the many fantastic entries we received.  Andrew Frith, Kona’s owner, shared a tale of the dog’s bravery: “A neighbour had just got a baby goat. Kona was sitting in the backyard and saw an eagle swoop the goat. Kona went crazy and the eagle went away. He saved that goat’s life. He loves barking at birds of prey like eagles and hawks. Never at any other bird. He also loves to just hang out with our chicken.”

Clint from Pocketbeagles Design Studio will immortalise Kona on the 440ml beer can, continuing Doggobrau’s tradition of showcasing rescue animals in support of RSPCA Victoria.

We received a total of 70 entries, making the decision a challenging one! We’re grateful to everyone who participated and shared their adorable rescue dogs with us.

For the past four years, Doggobrau has been dedicated to showcasing and supporting pets in need, partnering with RSPCA Victoria through our annual beer release. Doggo has become a beloved part of our beer lineup, bringing joy to both humans and animals.

Previous featured dogs include Eddy the greyhound, Newton the lurcher/collie-X, Kyari the cat, and Phoebe.

Want to see your pup’s face on a beer?

For the past four years, we’ve been showcasing and helping raise funds (and awareness) for pets in need, alongside our friends at RSPCA Victoria through our annual beer release, DoggoBrau Tropical XPA.

Doggo has become a beloved part of our beer lineup and it brings joy to so many people – and animals.

Our pups are by our sides for every step of the adventures we take – whether it’s floating down the river, hiking in the hills, running in the trees, or hitting the trails on our bikes. Adventure dogs, trail dogs, and faithful friends – we love them all.

Over the years, we’ve featured Eddy the greyhound, Newton the lurcher/collie-X, Kyari the cat (#cattobrau) and who could forget adorable little, bandana-wearing Phoebe?!

But this year – we need your help! We’re on the hunt for a cover star to be the face – and the tail – of this year’s DoggoBrau beer cans.

So if you have opened your heart – and home – to rescue or adopt a funny, furry, cute, cuddly, fluffy, floofy four-legged (dog) friend, we want to meet them!

Trot on over here to enter now.

The winning pooch will be immortalised in print (and beer) by our design guru Clint Weaver of Pocketbeagles, will feature on all DoggoBrau 2024 cans – and they’ll win a case of beer for their owner!

The only catch is – all doggos must be rescue or adopted pups to be eligible (#adoptdontshop)

Entries close September 11.
Bone appetite!

Vote for #notanotherpaleale in 2022

Ever calculated the percentage of pale ales in the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beer Poll? We have.

95% of the Top 20 beers in the 2021 poll are pale ales – or hazy pales, tropical pales, India pales, etc. You get the drift…

And as a brewery whose #1 best-selling beer is not a pale ale, we find this statistic pretty interesting.

Craft lagers are on the rise in the Australian beer market – that’s a fact. And breweries who have long turned their noses up at brewing lagers are now scrambling to try and brew them quickly. But, here in Bright, we’re ahead of the curve…

We’ve been brewing our best-selling Alpine Lager (and, before that, our Bright Lager) for years now, and it very quickly became our #1 best-selling beer – both in our brewpub and more widely across Australia.

It’s brewed with pure Alpine water and locally-grown High Country hops. It’s as crisp as the winter sun rising over the mountains around Bright. And it’s a damn good beer.

Last year, with the help of beer lovers around Australia, Alpine had one of the fastest climbs up the Hottest 100 ladder, climbing from #150-something to #32 – making it the best lager in Victoria made by an independent brewery.
Now that’s a statistic we can get behind!

That fact, coupled with the larger resurgence, has seen Alpine Lager find its way into the hands of thousands more beer lovers around Australia in 2022.
So with lager well and truly on the way up, we’re hoping to see it give all these pale ales a run for their money in the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beer Poll for 2022.
Competitions like this – which are won by popular vote – are really important to small businesses like ours. They can be an absolute game-changer. But changing the game when you’re a small, family-owned indie brewer can be a challenge.

Are you sick of seeing pale ales dominate the countdown? So are we! So let’s get together and do something about it.

There are so many amazing craft beers out there, and we know your Top 5 votes are precious. But a vote for Alpine Lager is more than just a vote for us – it’s a vote for small business, for adventure, and for the future (not to mention a vote to bump those pales ales out of all the top spots!).

Vote #1 Alpine Lager
