High Country music to ignite Bright at DARKER DAYS

Hear, see and dance to the mountain’s songs at Darker Days

It’s now less than 2 weeks to the inaugural DARKER DAYS, a new mid-winter festival created by Bright Brewery to celebrate winter in Bright.

DARKER DAYS will bring together High Country producers and operators, entertainers, craft beer and gourmet food lovers, and families to toast the season and welcome the return of lighter days following the Winter Solstice.

This new family friendly festival will be centred around locally produced dark beers and warming foods, along with live music and winter activities.  After the sun sets, Bright Brewery’s riverside lands will truly come alive with a spectacular ceremonial burning of a giant wooden structure in the shape of the brewery’s logo, which was revealed at the recent Bright Autumn Festival Gala Day parade.

Bright Brewery is excited to announce the line-up of talent that will provide the warming soundtrack for the festival, with 3 artists from North East Victoria adding a truly local sound to the event.

The DARKER DAYS music will kick off with the smooth indie rock and acoustic tunes of talented singer/songwriter/guitarist Mcrobin. Following the lighting of the Darker Days bonfire, Molly’s Dream will hit the stage. Echoing from the hills of North East Victoria, Molly’s Dream is fast becoming a crowd favourite on the Bluegrass scene. The multi-instrumental talent and sweet harmonies of Molly’s Dream are something to behold.

And then, as the real darkness and cold settles in, DARKER DAYS will finish with a massive DJ set by the Hillbilly DJs! Often found burning up the dance floor at Mt Buller, the Hillbilly DJs will make sure that their beats fire up all who embrace night-time celebrations, in what is sure to be one of the most fun and fire-themed DJ sets Bright has ever experienced!

Darker Days music line-upArtists and Set times:

  • 2pm – 5pm: Mcrobin (James McGuffie, from Myrtleford)
  • 5:30pm – 8:30pm: Molly’s Dream (Isabel Paton, Josh Grundy, Aron Mclean from Porepunkah/Beechworth)
  • 8:45pm – 10:45pm: The HillBilly DJs (Ben Annear and Sean Corcoran from Mt Buller)

Additional entertainment will be provided by the Bright Wordsmiths & Poets, NovaStar Productions stilt-walkers and games to keep everyone warm.

DARKER DAYS begins at 1:00pm on Saturday 1st of July and runs through until 11:00pm.

The festival is free to attend and all ages are welcome.

A BIT ABOUT THE FILMS

The four adventurous Texas A&M graduates challenge themselves against weather, terrain and personal conflicts through a 3000 mile epic journey from Mexico to Canada with 16 mustangs from the BLM adoption program.

Two professional climbers take up paragliding and set off on an adventure down to Mexico. Gunho and inexperienced, have they taken on more than they can handle?

A group of kayakers journey to the remote jungles of Papua New Guinea to attempt a first descent of the Beriman River, a daunting 40km run lined with sheer limestone walls and no way out but to ride to the ocean.

An Australian rock climber explains what it takes to climb one for the hardest routes in the Blue Mountains. A small team of riders travel to the remote Wakhan Corridor in Afghanistan on a world first mountain bike expedition. How can one of the best freestyle MTB riders, in the world, come from the flat lands of Ohio. We go back to where his true passion for riding was born – at home.

SHOWCASING THE ALPINE SHIRE

Throughout the evening we will also be showcasing some of the best local businesses in the Alpine Shire. It all starts with the Community Fundraising BBQ and Bar, where beer from two local breweries and wine from across the region will be on offer and all profits will go to a local community group. Then, at the start of the second half there will be a prize draw giving away an fantastic range of local prizes.
