Bright Brewery’s Picnic in the Paddock returned for its third year on Saturday, March 16th, and it did not disappoint!

Under sunny skies with a perfect 25 degrees, over 200 attendees soaked up the good vibes in the Paddock, the grassy park next to Bright Brewery. The afternoon unfolded with a fantastic lineup of local and national artists, culminating in a performance by the ARIA-nominated Katy Steele, who brought her “Broken Tour” to Bright, the only regional Victorian town to host the tour.

From Tahlia Brain’s powerful acoustic set to the infectious energy of JC and the Tree, Chloe Jade, and the sweet pop vibes from Katy Steele Duo, the music provided the perfect soundtrack to a warm autumn’s day.

The Bright Brewery bar was a popular spot, while local producers Reed & Co Distillery and Backwoods Distilling were slinging refreshing cocktails and boutique spirits.

Whether you brought your own picnic spread or opted for fresh flavours of Tu Vietnamese or a Bright Brewery loaded hot dog, Picnic in the Paddock offered a delightful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. It was a true celebration of good vibes, community, and top-notch Aussie music.

You can catch all the fun from the day on our social media pages.

DARKER DAYS festival returns for 2019

Darker Days midwinter festival highlightsWinter is coming. Embrace the darkness.

Bright Brewery is thrilled to announce that DARKER DAYS 2019 will set Bright alight on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

DARKER DAYS is a festive celebration of dark beer and the Alpine winter, providing a warming, welcome respite from the mid-winter chill.

With kids’ entertainment including stories and music under the Children’s Teepee, face-painting, wooden toys, and ghost tours, DARKER DAYS is a proudly family-friendly event.

The event will kick off at midday, with live music and entertainment throughout the day and evening, culminating in the lighting of a ceremonial bonfire after dark.

As is tradition, Bright Brewery’s acclaimed Stubborn Russian Imperial Stout will be launched at DARKER DAYS, making festival-goers the first in the country to get their hands on this cult classic.Darker Days midwinter festival highlights

Bright Brewery Head Brewer Reid Stratton said Stubborn Russian had an incredibly loyal following and beer-lovers should be excited for the 2019 vintage.

“We’re doing things a little bit differently this year and the stout will be steeped in oak after fermentation to give it a lusciously roasted finish,” Stratton said.

The 2017, 2018 and 2019 vintages of Stubborn Russian will be pouring from Bright Brewery’s taps during DARKER DAYS, giving visitors the chance to “collect” all three beers.Darker Days midwinter festival highlights

And many of the High Country’s best breweries will be on hand to serve their best warming, wintery brews, as well as local gin, coffee, whiskey, and food producers.

Now in its third year, DARKER DAYS has already become a hugely popular event in the depths of winter, drawing visitors to Bright outside of the traditionally busy tourist seasons.

Bright Brewery Marketing Officer Laura Gray said interest in DARKER DAYS had already started to build and the brewery was planning for 2019 to be the biggest and best event yet.

“As soon as DARKER DAYS finished last year, we had people asking when it was happening in 2019. We’re thrilled that people love this event so much and we’re working very hard to ensure 2019 is better than ever.”Darker Days event bonfire

Entry to DARKER DAYS will be via donation to the Bright CFA and beer-drinkers will be able to buy a collectible, limited-edition Darker Days tasting glass from which to enjoy beers from High Country brewers.

High Country music to ignite Bright at DARKER DAYS

Hear, see and dance to the mountain’s songs at Darker Days

It’s now less than 2 weeks to the inaugural DARKER DAYS, a new mid-winter festival created by Bright Brewery to celebrate winter in Bright.

DARKER DAYS will bring together High Country producers and operators, entertainers, craft beer and gourmet food lovers, and families to toast the season and welcome the return of lighter days following the Winter Solstice.

This new family friendly festival will be centred around locally produced dark beers and warming foods, along with live music and winter activities.  After the sun sets, Bright Brewery’s riverside lands will truly come alive with a spectacular ceremonial burning of a giant wooden structure in the shape of the brewery’s logo, which was revealed at the recent Bright Autumn Festival Gala Day parade.

Bright Brewery is excited to announce the line-up of talent that will provide the warming soundtrack for the festival, with 3 artists from North East Victoria adding a truly local sound to the event.

The DARKER DAYS music will kick off with the smooth indie rock and acoustic tunes of talented singer/songwriter/guitarist Mcrobin. Following the lighting of the Darker Days bonfire, Molly’s Dream will hit the stage. Echoing from the hills of North East Victoria, Molly’s Dream is fast becoming a crowd favourite on the Bluegrass scene. The multi-instrumental talent and sweet harmonies of Molly’s Dream are something to behold.

And then, as the real darkness and cold settles in, DARKER DAYS will finish with a massive DJ set by the Hillbilly DJs! Often found burning up the dance floor at Mt Buller, the Hillbilly DJs will make sure that their beats fire up all who embrace night-time celebrations, in what is sure to be one of the most fun and fire-themed DJ sets Bright has ever experienced!

Darker Days music line-upArtists and Set times:

  • 2pm – 5pm: Mcrobin (James McGuffie, from Myrtleford)
  • 5:30pm – 8:30pm: Molly’s Dream (Isabel Paton, Josh Grundy, Aron Mclean from Porepunkah/Beechworth)
  • 8:45pm – 10:45pm: The HillBilly DJs (Ben Annear and Sean Corcoran from Mt Buller)

Additional entertainment will be provided by the Bright Wordsmiths & Poets, NovaStar Productions stilt-walkers and games to keep everyone warm.
