Fred’s IWD Beer

International Women's Day 2022

We’ve brewed up something very exciting here in Bright.

In honour of International Women’s Day, we’re very proud to release the second edition of a new beer that’s very special to all of us.
Named in honour of our pioneering founder, the late Fiona ‘Fred’ Reddaway, the ‘Feijoa, Orange & Guava IPA’ was developed and created by Madi Bruce, Bright’s Assistant Brewer.

The concept for the first Fred’s beer was created by our then-apprentice brewer Madi Bruce in 2022. She devised a recipe for a light, easy-drinking beer (Fred’s Blackberry Pale Ale) and gathered the women of Bright Brewery to join her in the Brewhouse to brew it for International Women’s Day. The beer was named after our pioneering founder, the late Fiona ‘Fred’ Reddaway – a driving force behind the brewery. The project was a highlight of the year for many of us here at the Brewery, so we decided to make it an annual event and celebrate the 2023 launch with the Fred’s Long Lunch event.

This year’s beer is a Feijoa, Orange and Guava IPA. The beer was devised by our Events Coordinator Lilly Katterl with the recipe created again by Madi. More than 20 of our female staff were involved in the brewing and packaging of the beer; and the beautiful can design was illustrated by Melbourne artist, Lynn Bremner.

Part-proceeds from all cans and kegs of Fred’s sold go directly to Pink Boots Society Australia – an organisation which supports and empowers women in the brewing and fermentation industries in Australia.

“Honouring Fiona’s legacy is a big part of life at Bright Brewery,” Madi said. “She was the beating heart of the brewery before she passed away, and keeping her legacy alive is important to all of us. Fiona was a champion for women and naming our first International Women’s Day beer after her seemed like the perfect idea.“

Fred’s FOG IPA (6.3%)- is a fresh and fruity IPA with beautifully balanced orange, feijoa and subtle guava flavours and aromas.

It is available to purchase at Bright Brewery, online here, or at great craft beer retailers around Australia.
