Things To Do In Bright

Dinner Plain Sled Dog Challenge 8 dog race

Our proximity to the mountains and what is on offer, thanks to Mother Nature, gives you every reason to get outside in every season!

WINTER

Come and experience the Australian snow!

We are so lucky to have two downhill ski resorts, Falls Creek and Mount Hotham, plus Dinner Plain Alpine Village and Mount Buffalo National Park, within 90 minutes’ drive from Bright. Whether you are a skier, snowboarder or backcountry guru, experiencing snow within the gum trees is a treat!

If you’re not into downhill skiing, or are less familiar with snow, take your friends, family and loved ones to family-friendly Dinner Plain or Mt Buffalo.

You can rent a toboggan, go for a cross-country ski, or build a snowman before returning to your open fire in Bright.

Unsure of what you need? Visit one of our local ski shops, like Bright Ski Centre, to learn all you need to know for driving safely and being prepared with the snow conditions.

SPRING

Welcome back, Sunshine!

As the snow starts to melt, it is time to come out of hibernation and watch Bright’s iconic deciduous trees start to blossom. This time of year is famous for bike rides on our famous Murray to Mountains Rail Trail, visiting the nearby national parks and doing some hikes.

Our personal family-favourite at this time of year? A drive to Mt Buffalo National Park where you can see the impressive “wattles and waterfalls” – as the snowmelt runs off the plateau and the spring rains occur, Mount Buffalo’s waterfalls become spectacular. You can also test your nerve on the Mount Buffalo Glass Skywalk!

Bright is a hub for fun events all year round, and Spring is the beginning of a busy Events Season, kicking off with Bright’s beautiful Spring Festival. Stroll the streets while markets pop back up and music takes to venues decks.

SUMMER

Sun, glorious summer sun!

Summer is when tourists and locals alike head to the beautiful, fresh Alpine rivers that flow through town with refreshing mountain water. Whether it is grabbing a lilo and floating down the Ovens (past Bright Brewery!), hanging a line in to snag a trout, or dropping the kids off at the Bright Splash Park, our rivers, trees and (generally) cooler Alpine temperatures still allows you to stay outside and stay active.

If you are a mountain biker, you will be in town to experience Mystic MTB Park. If you are road cyclist, you will revel in our world-class mountain roads. Visit our friends at Cycle Path and All Terrain Cycles to find out more!

AUTUMN

Two words – Autumn foliage!

This is a lot of Bright locals’ favourite time of year as we watch the beautiful oranges and reds of Autumn take over our driveways, roads, paths and gardens. Don’t miss the iconic Autumn Festival, head up into the Alpine for a hike, or find your way up one of our local lookouts like Apex Hill, Huggins or Tower Hill. Autumn is also the best time of year to pack a picnic full of local produce (and Bright Brewery beer) and take in Golden Hour in the Alpine.
