Bright’s Alpine Lager named Victoria’s Best Indie Lager

Alpine Lager was voted into the 2021 GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beer Poll for the first time.

Bright’s Alpine Lager has stormed into the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beer Poll for the first time ever, debuting at number 32.

Its position also makes it the #1 ranked independent lager by a Victorian brewery.

The poll – the largest of its kind in Australia – is voted by members of the public, in a similar way to the Triple J Hottest 100 Music Poll.

More than 40,000 people vote in the annual poll, which is open to all Australian craft breweries.

This is the first year Alpine Lager, which has been a staple of Bright’s core range lineup since 2019, has cracked the Hottest 100, with its previous best ranking of 150 in last year’s poll.

Bright’s marketing manager Laura Gray said the team was absolutely thrilled with the result.

“Alpine Lager is far and away our most popular beer, and we are stoked to see it get the recognition it deserves.

“We’re so excited that there are so many craft beer drinkers out there loving what we are doing up here in our little corner of the High Country.

“We are so grateful to everyone out there that voted for us – it really does mean the world to a small, family-owned brewery trying to compete with much larger breweries and multinationals.”

(Save $15 on a case of Alpine Lager online now!)

Alpine Lager is one of five year-round core-range beers brewed at Bright’s state-of-the-art production facility in Bright by brewers Reid Stratton and David Stokie.

The pair also turn out more than 30 small-batch, limited-release beers every year, including the hugely popular Affogato Stout and cult favourite, Stubborn Russian Imperial Stout.

Ms Gray said the exciting result came off the back of a huge two years for the brewery, which saw it win a slew of medals at both the Australian Independent Beer Awards and the Australian International Beer Awards.

“It’s been a hard couple of years for everyone, with COVID interrupting everything, but we are really excited to see what 2022 has in store for us – especially after this exciting start to the year.”

Bright’s Alpine Lager is available online and at Bright Brewery all year round, as well as at many of Bright’s 500+ stockists throughout Australia and New Zealand.

COVID update from Bright

It will come as no surprise to most of you that the current spread of COVID-19 is bringing the hospitality and tourism industry to its knees.

Luckily, our resilience levels here in Bright are pretty high.

If you plan on visiting us soon, please cast your eyes over our updates below:

• Please HEAD HERE to book a table in advance. That’s the best way to ensure we can host you. If you are unable to book, it means we are at capacity for that session. Please choose another day/time or just walk-in.

• Please know – we are doing our absolute best to stay open and keep pouring those beers for you.

• Due to the spread of COVID-19 throughout Bright, and the rules around contact isolation, we are operating with very few staff across our Bar and Kitchen every day.

• Throughout the week, we will limit our menu if required, and limit food service from 3-5pm, until our team is back to full capacity. Please understand that we are all doing our best, and what we can offer will be reflective of the staff we have available.

• We will be forced to close sections of the Brewery on days when we are very short-staffed in the venue. You may see empty tables – please know, we can not service them.

• Many (most) local venues have been forced to close their doors, cut their hours, or move to takeaway only, so we are doing our best to stay open and welcome as many visitors as we can.

• Sadly, our staff have been on the receiving end of a lot of complaints and negativity about how strictly we are enforcing COVID-safe measures, and working to keep our Brewery a COVID-safe environment.

It’s almost comical that we have to say this – but please understand that these rules are not up for debate. It’s not personal. We take this course of action for the safety of our customers, staff, and their families. These decisions have been made by the Government, by Management, and not by the 18-year-old pouring your beer. Please give them a break!

Please be patient and kind to one another as we navigate yet another unprecedented time. We truly are excited to welcome you to Bright and to Bright Brewery – we just wish it was under better circumstances!

Stay safe, everyone, and thank you for continuing to support us!

Vote #1 Alpine Lager & support small business

Love Bright? Love beer? Love supporting small, indie brewers? We need your help!

Voting is now open in the annual GABS Festival Hottest 100 Craft Beers Poll – and we’d love to ask for your support in voting for our best-selling Alpine Lager.

Competitions like these are really important to small, family-owned businesses like ours.

There are so many amazing craft beers out there and we know your 5 votes are precious. But a vote for Alpine Lager is more than just a beer vote – it’s a vote for outdoor adventure, a vote for small business, and a vote for the future.

Check out the video and hear from our founder Scott about what your vote means to him.

UPDATE: COVID exposure on October 16 & 20, 2021

Sadly, we have been notified by the DHHS that two COVID-positive people dined at Bright Brewery on separate occasions recently, leading us to be classified as a Tier 1 COVID exposure site for the following times:
Sat, Oct 16: 6-8pm
Wed Oct 20: 11.50am-1.30pm
All customers who were checked in at the Brewery during these time will be contacted by DHHS (or you can call 1800 675 398). All of our staff who were working are now in isolation and following government directives.
Due to the length of time between the exposure and the Brewery being notified, and our already-rigorous cleaning and COVID-safe protocols, the brewery remains open for business.
We’ve been so blessed to have been so well isolated up here in our High Country bubble for the past two years, however, with COVID cases popping up all over the state, it really was only a matter of time.
We’re saddened that this has happened, but we’ll take it in our stride, confident that everything we’ve learnt and have been practising for the past two years is working to keep our staff and our customers safe.
And because of that, we’re thrilled to remain open for business, as per the government directive.
Please see the FAQs below for further info.

When was the exposure?

  1. Sat, Oct 16: 6-8pm
  2. Wed, Oct 20: 11.50am-1.30pm

When were we notified?

  1. Mon, Oct 25 @ 7pm (9 days after)
  2. Tue, Oct 26 @ 7pm (6 days after)

Are we closing?

No. Due to the length of time between the exposure & notification, and our cleaning regimes, we are not required to close.

Are our staff isolating?

All staff considered close contacts by the DHHS were sent home to isolate & test in accordance with DHHS directives. They will return to work when cleared to do so.

Are our staff vaccinated?

Yes

Why didn’t anyone contact me?

DHHS are responsible for contacting customers/close contacts – however, they are running very far behind in this process (up to a week). We contacted everyone who had a booking during those times.

I’ve seen my mum in hospital/my baby grand-daughter/the pope in the past week. Do they need to isolate?

No. Only customers here at the Brewery at the time of the exposure are considered close contacts by the DHHS. No one you’ve had contact with since is involved – unless they were also here. This may change if you test positive.

I haven’t heard from the DHHS- What do I do now?

We are not health professionals & cannot tell you what to do. So it’s best to call the COVID hotline on 1800 675 398 or your GP for current health advice & next steps.

Come and have a beer with us!

Victoria, we bloody did it!

With COVID restrictions starting to ease, we are very excited to announce that, this Friday, we will be able to welcome 130 people at a time to come and have a beer with us!

After months of severe capacity restrictions due to COVID-19, we are thrilled to move to the next stage of reopening, which means that we are well on our way to a “normal” summer here in Bright.

We will be taking bookings for inside (30 people) and undercover outdoor tables only (30-40 people). All additional outside tables will be available for walk-in customers all day and night.

We’ll be launching our new Summer menu in honour of the occasion, and have a huge array of fresh and fun new beers, as well as all our core range faves!

To make a booking, head to our Table Bookings page. Otherwise, just pop in and see our friendly team and we’ll do our best to seat you.

While our Melbourne customers, unfortunately, will have to wait a little longer to visit us, the end is in sight and we can’t wait to see you back here soon!

Please note, due to Victorian Government Regulations, all customers must be fully vaccinated from Friday, Oct 22, and must show proof of vaccination upon request.
